Earlier this week we learned of potential Deer Valley Resort expansion to the East in Wasatch County. This is great news for both current and future Jordanelle and Heber City real estate investors!

In a Park Record article released Tuesday, Bob Wheaton, Deer Valley Resort president and general manager, discussed the resort’s plan to expand acreage, lodging, parking and base area facilities along the resort’s border of U.S. Highway 40.

Although the resort’s Jordanelle Express Gondola does extend to the Hwy 40 Mayflower exit, the current gondola parking lot is small and few amenities exist for skiers eager to hit the slopes right away. It’s official: the Canyons Resort sale to Vail Resorts has happened. News of the sale vibrated through Park City last week as Talisker Corporation announced a forged agreement with the Colorado mega power, Vail Resorts.

According to the agreement, Vail Resorts will lease Canyons Resort for a 50-year term, paying $25 million annually plus inflation costs. Vail has long understood that Utah was a missing link in their portfolio and has shown interest in Park City as a solution.

In fact, in 2007 Vail Resorts was caught in a bidding war with Talisker over the Canyons Resort sale. Ultimately Talisker was successful and purchased the rising ski resort for approximately $100 million. Since 2007, Talisker has increased Canyons Resort acreage to 4,000 acres
