5 Reasons to Book a Spring Park City Family Ski Vacation

Posted by Scott Maizlish on Thursday, March 12th, 2015 at 10:49pm.

utah_skiSpring ski vacations for the family in Park City are one of the best kept secrets in the mountains—winter doesn’t end here in February.

March and April are filled with sunny ski days, live music, and fun activities to keep every age group entertained.

If a storm hits while you’re here you could ski waist deep snow in the morning and spend your afternoon in a t-shirt enjoying a concert and après treats with the family.

No matter what, you’ll find great deals on lodging and lift tickets at each of the resorts—taking a bite out of the sting of a four or five day trip.

Here are 5 reasons you should book a Park City ski vacation for the family in the spring.

1. Bluebird Snow Days

You’ll find some of your best skiing days in March and early April. Seriously.

The combination of deep spring storms and warm sunny days makes for a rare experience. You can spend the morning skiing immaculately groomed runs or deep snow and enjoy lunch outside with the family.

No one is going to get too cold and have to go back inside right away and some big snowstorms come through Park City in the spring. It’s hard to believe, but you can easily be skiing waist deep snow the first week of April.

You’ll want to get there early before the snow gets too sticky to ski off trail—it’s well worth the effort.

2. Lodging & Lift Ticket Deals

Most people assume winter ends in February and the resorts offer deals to remind people that  March and April are worth the trip.

You’ll find discounts on lodging and lift tickets all over town in the spring, like the Spring Value Package at Deer Valley Resort® that saves you 20% on lodging and lift tickets.

Park City Mountain Resort offers a spring fling deal where you get your fifth night of lodging and fifth day of skiing for free when you stay and ski four nights.

Canyons offers a similar deal for shorter stays—Ski Free, Stay Free—letting you stay 3 nights at one of the resort lodges and get your fourth night of lodging and fourth day of skiing for free.

3. Live Music Après

All of the resorts in Park City have fantastic live music at the end of the day on weekends during the month of March. Live music, food, and cocktails in the sun after a day of skiing are one of the best ways to unwind.

It’s also a great way to keep the kids entertained as lots of families will be enjoying the music with yours.

Deer Valley®  transforms the lounge on the second floor of the Snowpark Lodge and brings in acts that will entertain the whole family.

Park City Mountain Resort turns the Payday Deck into the home of their Spring Apres Concert Series from 3-5 p.m. during the month of March into early April. They’ll bring in fun bluegrass bands and other mountain town favorites.

Canyons has some of the biggest and best concerts as part of Spring Gruv—10 days of outdoor events and music to celebrate the sunny days. You’ll even find cowboys, s’mores, and chances to meet the friendly avalanche dogs mixed in with the shows.

4.  Canyons Pond Skimming

Pond skimming is a ritual in ski towns. One where people dress up in costumes and try to ski or snowboard across a 100-foot pond of water—most of them fall into the icy water. This year, Canyons pond skimming is on March 21st and the skimming begins at 12:00 p.m.

The event is beside Red Pine Lodge, so you’ll need a lift or gondola ticket to watch. This turns into a big party and the crowd gets rowdy so it’s not the best for little ones. It’ll be fun for teenagers and older.

Afterward, a concert starts in the Resort Village to end the day.

5.  PCMR Snowasis Carnival

Park City Mountain Resort has a week-long festival designed specifically for families called Snowasis. It’s filled with après and on-snow activities—like scavenger hunts—to bring in April.

To start, a carnival with face painting, magic, and other entertainment transforms the day on Saturday, March 28th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Kid-friendly concerts, avalanche dog meet-and-greets, and a movie night are all a part of the fun and games. There’s even a Easter egg hunt on April 5th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
