Earlier this summer talk buzzed as news of a potential Deer Valley Resort to Historic Main Street Gondola surfaced.
As I mentioned previously, a gondola connection from lodging at either Silver Lake or Empire Pass down to the restaurants and night life in the heart of Park City would provide Deer Valley property owners with real estate opportunity.
After spending the summer months mulling over the best possible strategy, Deer Valley President Bob Wheaton recently told the Park Record that Deer Valley is considering a select number of locations in Silver Lake Village for the terminal’s crest.
As a popular winter and summer hub, Silver Lake has become an attractive top to the potential gondola. Wheaton suggested that the resort’s preference for the lower terminal would still be the parking lot adjacent to the Wasatch Brew Pub at the top of Main Street.
It will be interesting to follow developments on the prospective gondola as we enter 2013.
The lot next to the Brew Pub is currently owned by City Hall and will require a purchase or lease of the land. However it’s definitely encouraging that Deer Valley has entered talks with Doppelmayr, one of the leading ski lift manufacturers and developer of Canyons new Orange Bubble Express.
Although a transportation pathway up to Silver Lake has not been finalized, possible options include paralleling state route 224 between Main Street and Silver Lake Village.
If the new Deer Valley to Main Street gondola moves forward, Silver Lake property owners may be the big winners as soon as the 2014/15 season. As it is, we saw significant gains in Deer Valley Real Estate in the Park City Board of Realtors 3rd Quarter Statistics released back in October.
In fact, the median pricing for Upper Deer Valley condominiums rose by over 35% during the 3rd Quarter.
