Vail Resorts Backs off on Trademark Application

Posted by Scott Maizlish on Thursday, July 21st, 2016 at 8:00am.

You may or may not have heard, but Vail Resorts attempted to trademark the name "Park City" as they have renamed the newly combined Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons to "Park City". This was very disturbing to a lot of local residents, especially business owners that have "Park City" as part of their business name.

To quote Dana Williams, former mayor and leader of the opposition group, "We welcomed Vail with open arms, but this trademark application, it just goes to far" I understand the mentality of a publicly traded company doing whatever they can to protect themselves, and I feel it was a step over the line as well. Vail has and will bring a lot of good things to Park City, and they will also make some changes that locals will not be happy about.

In regards to this trademark application, I personally want to say THANK YOU to Vail for listening to the citizens of Park City, and backing down. Hopefully in the future something like this will not happen again. Congratulations to all the business owners in Park City!
