The whole country is freezing and Park City’s ski resorts are prepping for their 2014 season opening days. Our last storm didn’t bring as much as Lancaster, New York is getting right now, but the snow guns are blowing and more of Utah’s champagne powder is in the forecast.
PCMR opens up this Saturday Nov. 22nd, Canyons the following Friday Nov. 28th, and Deer Valley Resort® opens Saturday Dec 6th. Now that Vail operates PCMR and Canyons, you can attend both if you have your Epic Pass. It’s only available until November 23rd, so make sure you get yours if you want one.
If you have the Epic Local Pass, Canyons opening day is blacked out Friday and Saturday (Sunday is fair game) because it’s a holiday weekend, but you can ski or snowboard at PCMR if you want to get some turns in and warm up your legs.
Here are the Park City resorts and what you need to know about their 2014 opening days.
Park City Mountain Resort
2014 Opening Day: Saturday, November 22nd
The lifts start spinning at 9:00 a.m. Park City Mountain Resort this Saturday and it looks like a solid snowstorm will show up for 2014 opening day. There will be no night skiing until December 26th, so don’t plan on that. They aren’t sure which runs will be open, but you can expect a typical small opening of a few runs, like you get at most resorts. Last chair is at 4:00 p.m.
New this season, is the ability for Epic Pass holders to ski and snowboard at PCMR. This is sure to increase the crowd so make sure to get here early so that you can find parking. There are Facebook rumors about free PCMR swag being handed out on opening day (t-shirts, beanies, etc.) confirmed by their social media team so be on the look-out. They didn’t say which specific items they’d be handing out so I don’t know exactly what you can expect.
Check out the snow report and lift status here when you wake up if you want to see what lifts are open and how much new snow is on the ground.
2014 Opening Day: Friday, November 28th
Canyons 2014 opening day is the Friday after Thanksgiving and the lifts start spinning at 9:00 a.m. There’s no confirmation of what lifts will be open, but it’ll probably be Saddleback and High Meadow as usual. With a snowstorm on the way, they may be able to open Doc’s Run early, but I wouldn’t count on it. Last chair is at 4:00 p.m.
If you have the normal Epic Pass you’re free to ski or snowboard on Friday and Saturday. Epic Local pass holders need to remember that their passes are blacked out on Friday and Saturday because it’s a busy holiday weekend—but you’re free to ride on Sunday.
Wake up early to check out the Canyons snow and weather report page for snowfall and lift status.
Deer Valley Resort®
2014 Opening Day: Saturday, December 6th
Deer Valley Resort® has a big 2014 opening day planned on Saturday, December 6th. The lifts start up at 9:00 a.m. and their 23rd Annual Deer Valley Celebrity Skifest, benefiting Waterkeeper Alliance kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Festivities include a Pro-Am race with celebrities, olympians, and sponsors carving the slopes at noon on Birdseye ski run near Silver Lake. Last chair is at 4:15 p.m.
You can find out more about the Celebrity Skifest events here. There’s a chance they’ll sell out of lift tickets because of this special event on opening day and an early season number of available runs, so be sure to get your guaranteed passes here.
